Shooting trial for Pierre teenage moved to Winner

Posted: Updated:
PIERRE -- The case of a Pierre teen accused of fatally shooting a classmate has been moved to Winner in Tripp County.

KCCR radio reports that Judge John Brown approved the change of venue in the case of Braiden McCahren on Thursday morning.

Defense attorneys had argued that the 17-year-old defendant could not receive a fair trial because of the case's high profile.

McCahren is being tried as an adult. He has pleaded not guilty in the December 2012 death of 16-year-old Dalton Williams, who was fatally shot while they and another boy were at McCahren's house in Pierre.

The trial is scheduled to start June 2 and last about two weeks.
