Jordan Dawn Hanson, 22, of Woonsocket died in a motorcycle accident Saturday evening near Alexandria. She was riding with Sean Millard Baas, 19, of Alexandria.

They were driving eastbound on South Dakota Highway 38 near Mitchell when, according to police, Bass slowed down to turn right on Riverside Road, but lost control and began to slide in front of a semi-truck. The truck was northbound on Riverside Road and coming to a stop at the stop sign.

Police say Hanson was thrown from the motorcycle and slid under the driver's side front dual tires of the semi-trailer. Bass was also thrown from the bike and received serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Police add both were wearing a helmet.

The accident happened just before seven Saturday night. David Vanzee, 62, of Huron was the driver of the semi-truck. Vanzee was wearing a seat-belt and was not injured in the crash.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating this crash. The Hanson County Sheriff's Office, Alexandria Fire Department and Mitchell Police Department also responded to the scene.
