Online auction open helping area pit bulls in need

Posted: Updated:

The Sioux Empire Pit Rescue (SEPR) is hosting its first online auction "Purchase for Pit Bills" to raise funds for needy pit bulls in our area. Bidding begins May 1st and closes May 14th, with the proceeds supporting SEPR's vet fund and educational outreach.

The SEPR is an all-volunteer rescue group based in Sioux Falls whose mission is to promote responsible pit bull ownership, provide breed education, combat pet overpopulation, and find qualified homes for sound pit bull dogs in the United States.

Organizers say funds from the auction will provide much needed financial support to provide preventative medical care and treatment for SEPR dogs, as well as the specialized care needed for some of our dogs. SEPR currently has two female mothers, Tulip and Geisha, who are recuperating from extensive surgery after being used multiple times for breeding, so they will require additional care and treatment.

SEPR invites the public bid on auction items donated by businesses from all across the Midwest. From home spa collections to pet accessories, hand-polished wood bracelets to oil changes - there are 112 packages for every taste and budget.

The Sioux Empire Pit Rescue consistently houses over 20 dogs at any given time. The dogs SEPR takes in may have come from a shelter (often from cities with breed bans, where they were in danger of being euthanized), from abuse/neglect situations, or from "busts" of suspected dog fighting rings. Medical vet bills can reach $2,000 to $3,000 each month so they say the community support is greatly needed.

To bid: visit the Sioux Empire Pit Rescue Facebook page and search items that interest you. The auction items will be delivered and shipped to winners the week of May 19th.
