Chaos in southwestern Sioux Falls when bus hits homes during morning rush hour

Posted: Updated:
It was a morning rush hour scene unlike any other in southwest Sioux Falls today, when a school bus crashed into two homes.

It happened around 7:30 at the corner of West 56th Street and Dunlap Court.

And not only did it bring a number of crews out for much of the morning, but it left neighbors in disbelief.

“This neighborhood is a nice local neighborhood,” Andres Artunduaga said. “I have no words.”

Police say the only person hurt in the crash was the bus driver. He was taken to the hospital and checked for possible medical problems – something police say likely caused the crash. Police say the driver told them he didn’t remember much before or after the crash.

Paul Fosheim lives in the house across the street – the one the bus hit first. He's hard of hearing and didn't want to do an interview with KSFY News, but he did tell us he was in the living room with his two young boys when they felt and heard a loud bang and called 911.

The entire scene left his family in shock. But in the end, everyone knows this could have been a lot worse.

“The fact that the driver walked away from this, and will more than likely just be sore, it’s a blessing” Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Firefighter Guy Burdick said.
