Woman pleads guilty to embezzling from South Dakota school

Posted: Updated:
WATERTOWN -- A Watertown woman accused of embezzling more than $100,000 from the local school district has pleaded guilty.

News outlets report that 43-year-old Denise Trively has entered a guilty plea to grand theft embezzlement charges.

The plea agreement with the Codington County state's attorney requires Trively to pay back nearly $147,000. The sum includes the embezzlement amount and audit fees.

Authorities allege Trively took the money between June 2012 and October 2013 while she was benefits coordinator for the district. She's been suspended since November.

She is scheduled to be sentenced June 11. The felony embezzlement charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

A telephone listing for Trively could not be found and it is unclear whether she has legal representation.
