Pavilion Spotlight: The Lady With All the Answers

Posted: Updated:

Long before she was known by the pen name Ann Landers, Sylvia Henkin knew Esther Pauline Friedman.

"The Freidman twins were identical, beautiful young girls in Sioux City, Iowa. And, my family and I lived in Sheldon, Iowa. They were Jewish, and I still am Jewish," said Sylvia Henkin.

Henkin went to the same temple as the Freidmans.

"They were outstanding even in those days. They would stop any show. They were very smart and always dressed to the nines," said Henkin.

While Esther Pauline went on to pen the Ask Ann Landers column for 47 years, her sister Pauline Esther wrote Dear Abby.

"And, I'd say I knew them, and I could have given the same advice!"

Coming this October, "The Lady With All the Answers" - a one-woman play about Ann Landers - will come to the Washington Pavilion. Tickets for the play will go on sale May 14th.

As for Henkin, she'll, of course, be in the audience.

"Of course I will. I wouldn't miss it for anything!"
