South Dakota delegates to China seek foreign students

Posted: Updated:
PIERRE -- South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard is leading a trade mission to China with hopes of attracting more students to state universities and new markets for state exports.

The delegation leaves Friday and returns a week later. Daugaard will travel with 16 business representatives and state employees.

An assistant vice president from South Dakota State University will promote South Dakota's online course offerings.

Daugaard will travel to a Mongolian province to begin talks on establishing a "sister state" relationship. He says that governmental tie might encourage foreign students to study in South Dakota.

Most of the trip will take place in Beijing and Shanghai where South Dakotans will talk business with state officials and potential buyers. State dairy, sunflower and electrical products will be represented on the trip.
