Jobs available for college students in Aberdeen

Posted: Updated:
If you drive around Aberdeen, it won't take you long to realize businesses are hiring. With college students finishing up the semester they choose to head on home, or stay in Aberdeen to work.

Surprisingly most choose the latter. “Unlike Brookings, we are almost unaffected by the town clearing out after college, so year round Aberdeen is always kind of thriving,” Jon Conn said.

Jon Conn was born and raised in Aberdeen, and he says students stay here year round because they can get good jobs closely related to their career goals.

“There are opportunities with internships through the college,” Conn said. Many students from Presentation College are going to school for nursing. With two hospitals in town, it is a good opportunity for them to stay in Aberdeen.

“A lot of good employers want to look at you while you are in college and think about adding to the team and your career path in the future,” Absolutely! Aberdeen Executive Director, Julie Johnson, said.

The city of Aberdeen is constantly on the grow creating more and more jobs. There are currently almost 1,000 job openings in Brown County alone. “In the last year there has been 3 new restaurants that opened. You definitely see more job opportunity,” Conn said.
