Sheriff’s deputies are searching for an escaped inmate in Sioux Falls.

David James Winter, 24, fled from the Minnehaha County Correction Center, 1900 W. Russell St., around 3:30 Friday afternoon. He was wearing jail striped pants, a white T-shirt and no shoes, Sgt. Jason Gearman said in a news release.

Winter was held for aggravated grant theft, possession of a stolen vehicle. He was also wanted out of Pennington County for a misdemeanor fail to vacate charge.

Winter is a Native American male, 5-foot-8-inches and weighs around 180 pounds, Gearman said. He faces up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for the escape charges.

If you have any information on Winter’s whereabouts, please contact the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department at 605-367-4300.
