Sanford to conduct feasibility study on indoor pool

Posted: Updated:
A year ago, Sanford made it known that land would be available at the Sanford Sports Complex if the city of Sioux Falls wanted to put an indoor swimming facility there.

Friday, Sanford told us they're moving ahead with a feasibility study to determine if the pool could work on its West Pentagon Place location.

Sanford has 50 acres available for development. Chief Operating Officer, Nate White says the city and the city council have been huge supporters of the Sanford Sports Complex. Considering all of the dialogue surrounding Spellerberg Park and an indoor pool, Sanford felt obligated to look into the matter further.

"We've received a lot of pressure from user groups and some other folks about the location of the indoor pool. We're kind of stuck in the middle. Our answer was hey if this really is what the issue was let's look at the feasibility of putting it out here," said White.

On Tuesday, the city council will hear the second reading of a proposal to add $11.1 million to this year's budget to help build a new indoor pool at Spellerberg.
