Pastor talks about fire at local Sioux Falls church

Posted: Updated:

A Sioux Falls congregation is working to pick up the pieces after a fire in their church attic last night.

Neighbors called 911 after they saw smoke coming out of the roof of the Apostolic House of Deliverance on S. Duluth Ave.

Fire crews had the flames put out in about 20 minutes, but the fire was caused plenty of damage.

They don't know how the fire started, but the pastor will be walking through tomorrow with people from the fire department.

They hope to get a better idea after that, but they do know there was heavy fire damage in the attic.

No one was in the church when it started and no one was injured.

The Red Cross was on the scene to help the firefighters.

The congregation was able to have service this morning, but it was at a near by church.

Pastor Sylvester Clark and Co-Founder, First Lady Tracey Clark said the building is over 100 years old, and the church has been there for 15 years, so they want to stay there.

But they're uncertain of how long it will take to rebuild.

In the mean time, pastor clark says he's going to keep his head up and keep his faith.

"So we had a little set back, but we know that with the power of Christ and how he's opened doors and neighboring church next to us opened his door for us to have service so we're still excited about what god is going to do for us," he said.

Pastor Clark added they're focusing on the support from the community.

He said people have been calling and texting all day to see how they can help and what they can do.

And they're even getting calls from pastors from out of the state asking if they need anything.
