Former NSU coach Don Meyer recieving hospice care

Long-time Northern State basketball coach Don Meyer is in hospice care, the family's spokesperson says.

Meyer has been fighting cancer for five and a half years. Avera named its new cancer center in Aberdeen after Meyer and his wife in April of this year.

Meyer long held the record for most wins by a men's basketball coach. He retired from Northern after 38 years of coaching in 2010. Just two years earlier, Meyer was diagnosed with cancer. Doctors discovered the liver and intestinal cancer during an emergency surgery after a car crash.
