Yankton murder suspect to get psychiatric evaluation

Posted: Updated:
YANKTON -- A man accused of using a hammer to kill his uncle in Yankton is scheduled to undergo a psychiatric evaluation later this week.

Joshua Hudson could face life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder in the March 7 death of 46-year-old Todd Hudson. Judge Glen Eng last month ordered the psychiatric exam to determine if Hudson is competent to represent himself, which Hudson has requested.

Eng also appointed public defender Dan Fox in the meantime. The Yankton Daily Press & Dakotan reports that Fox says a Sioux Falls psychiatrist will conduct Hudson's evaluation on Friday.

Hudson remains jailed on $1 million cash bond.
