The Community Thrift Shop is a hit in Milbank

Posted: Updated:
The saying, "one man's trash is another man's treasure," definitely can apply in Milbank. The town of just around 3,300 people has a lot of support for its community thrift shop. The store is open Wednesday through Saturday, and when Wednesday morning rolls around, people are lining up outside the doors to get that steal of the day.

"It's toe-to-toe people. It's kind of fun, but it's craziness," thrift shop worker Val Stanek said.

People from all over make their way to The Community Thrift Shop. Terra McTighe is from Odessa, Minn. She says she has been coming weekly for about 8 years. "Shopping for miscellaneous things is what I love to do, so you find the hot spot and wait at the door," McTighe said.

All this shopping is for a good cause. The profits go to the Grant County Christian service Council. "They are members of all the area churches. They meet every week and pass out the funds to people in crisis," Stanek said. Last year The Community Thrift Shop was able to donate around $115,000 to people in need. That's just one more reason bringing people in the door.
