Bosworth says AG has 'vendetta' against her

Posted: Updated:

Former U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Annette Bosworth held a press conference this afternoon, saying that South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has 'vendetta' against her that began three years ago.

"Jackley wants to send me to prison for 24 years...he wants me shackled and locked in a cage," said Bosworth.

Bosworth was indicted on fraud and perjury charges on Wednesday. Her spokesman, Lee Stranahan, said people were told of Bosworth's indictment weeks before the election.

At Friday's press conference, Bosworth read a statement that explained she made her trip to Philippines very public, posting pictures and blogging about her travels. An act she says shows she was not trying to hide anything.

"What is my possible criminal intent in committing these acts," asked Bosworth.

Bosworth said Jackley's vendetta against her began three years ago when her medical license was threatened. In that case, Bosworth once again said there was no criminal intent.

"When I saw a need in my community, I paid for it. And, they called it fraud," said Bosworth.

KSFY received word last night that Bosworth was moving out of the Sioux Falls apartment she and her family were living in. When asked about it today Bosworth said, "I am not moving...but it is a good time for my children to not be present for some of this."

Bridget Bennett was at today's press conference. She'll have more on this story on KSFY News at 5.
