Sioux Falls aquatic facilities see record numbers

Posted: Updated:
Aquatic facilities in Sioux Falls have seen a record number of visitors.

City officials say the facilities saw a combined 30,691 visits in May, breaking the previous record set in 1988 of 23,999 visits.

Jean Pearson is the city's recreation program coordinator. Pearson says family swim pass sales have been a "huge success."

City council last month approved $19.4 million to build another aquatic facility. The new indoor pool will be located at the city's Spellerberg Park.

City residents in April rejected a ballot measure for a new outdoor pool at Spellerberg Park following a campaign by a group pushing for an indoor pool.
