Transient attacks train engineer in Sioux Falls

A train engineer received minor injuries after allegedly being attacked by a transient near Falls Park in Sioux Falls.

Police say a train was stopped on a railroad bridge Monday afternoon when Robert Dam, 30, boarded the car the engineer was in. Dam exchanged words with him before punching the engineer in the face.

Investigators say Dam then left the train and headed south. Officers tracked Dam down in a wooded area east of the railroad bridge where the confrontation took place.

Dam was charged with simple assault and trespassing. His motivation for the assault in unclear. Sioux Falls police are still investigating the incident.
