Pheasants Forever Coming to Sioux Falls

Posted: Updated:
Pheasants Forever is setting up its first office in South Dakota, in response to a sharp drop in bird numbers. Chairwoman Pam Roberts says the governor's task force on pheasant habitat welcomes the news.
The committee is tasked with finding ways to boost the pheasant population. A state report says the birds have dwindled since 2008 as habitat has been converted to farmland.
Longtime Pheasants Forever staffer Dave Nomsen will move to Brookings in July and be the group's point person in the state. He says the move recognizes South Dakota as a global center of pheasant hunting. There are already eight biologists in the state with Pheasants Forever. The nonprofit organization has about 6,000 members in South Dakota.
