Rock Valley, Iowa Rock Valley, Iowa

The City of Rock Valley is reporting that the man made berms constructed over the past two days have held overnight and the river has begun to recede.

The Rock River is projected to slowly drop throughout the day Wednesday. As the river lowers the city is issuing the following warnings:

1  The manmade berms may not be removed under any condition.

2. Streets may have been undermined in the flooded areas and no vehicles are permitted to drive in those areas.

3. The bridges need to be inspected before any vehicles are permitted to cross the bridges.

4. Homeowners are cautioned not to begin pumping out their basements because of the strong possibility they will collapse their basement walls

5. Residents and volunteers are encouraged not to work in the water because of health concerns regarding the quality of the water.

6. People who have been working in the water the past two days are encouraged to make sure their tetanus shots are up to date.

7. Residents and members outside of the community are still encouraged to stay home and stay out of the way of emergency personnel and officials that are assessing the damage.

No volunteers are needed at this time until the water has receded below flood stage and it is safe to begin the clean up process.
