The community of Wessington Springs is slowly returning to its feet after a tornado devastated much of the town Wednesday night.
Community leaders held a press conference Friday morning to inform the public on the town's progress. Mayor Melissa Mebius says things are very slowly returning to normal.
"We have days, months, years to try and get back what we had," Mebius said. "It'll happen. Wessington Springs is a good community, and we'll get it back."
Mebius said the recovery efforts have already noticeable difference around town. Some wreckage has been removed, and both electrical and water services have returned to some areas.
The South Dakota National Guard along with local volunteers have been doing most of the work so far on cleanup efforts. Community leaders have not yet decided if they will ask for volunteers from outside the area to assist in the recover.
The mayor also said everyone who was displaced by the storm has found a temporary place to stay.
