Multiple relief funds in place for South Dakota storm victims

Posted: Updated:

Many relief funds are in place to help the victims of the storms in northeastern South Dakota.

City officials in Wessington Springs established a relief fund through the South Dakota Red Cross.

Cash donations designated to the Wessington Springs Relief Fund may also be dropped off at American Bank & Trust locations in Wessington Springs, Alpena, Huron, Wolsey, Miller, Huron-Walmart, Pierre, Mellette and De Smet.

Community leaders are working to establish a donation-reception center and are preparing a list of community needs. Once local leaders have identified what the community needs for its recovery, that list will be announced and donations will be gratefully accepted.

Lewis drug is supporting storm victims across the area with free vegetable plants for those whose gardens were destroyed by hail, flooding or tornadoes.

In order to redeem two free 4-packs of vegetable plants, Lewis is asking that customers bring in a photo of their home's damaged garden and show it to the cashier. The free plants are available at all Lewis Garden Center locations.
