Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rep. Susan Wismer (D-Britton) has named Susy Blake, a former state legislator and nurse, as her lieutenant governor running mate.
“As a former legislator, mother, wife, nurse, and activist Blake’s background is rooted in South Dakota,” said Rep. Wismer on Wednesday. “Her commitment to community, her constituents and for working families is something I've always admired. She epitomizes all that is great about South Dakota and is committed to fighting for our state's future.”
Blake represented District 13 in Sioux Falls from 2008-2012, choosing not to run for re-election in 2012. She and her husband Jerry raised their three sons in Sioux Falls, all three graduating from Lincoln High School. Blake has tirelessly served on many boards in Sioux Falls and across the state.
“It was an honor to be asked to join Susan for this historic campaign, and now it is my pleasure to join this campaign and stand with Susan to advocate for all of the people of South Dakota,” said Blake.
Wismer will square off against Republican incumbent Dennis Daugaard in the November election.
