Kidnapping, assault charges filed against Joseph Patterson

A Sioux Falls man who is the primary suspect in the death of a 2-year-old has been arrested again.

Police say Joseph Patterson, 27, is facing several charges, including 1st degree kidnapping charges and two counts of aggravated assault. He is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond.

Patterson is the suspect in death of  Tyrese Robert Ruffin, 2. Ruffin is the son of a Sioux Falls woman and Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.

The Sioux Falls Police Department responded to a “check well-being” call early Wednesday morning in the 4500 block of East 42nd Street in Sioux Falls. Patterson was arrested and charged charged with kidnapping and assault.

Patterson is expected to appear on these charges Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 1A at the Minnehaha County Courthouse.

Kidnapping in the 1st Degree is a Class C felony and punishable by up to life in prison and/or a $50,000 fine. Aggravated Assault is a Class 3 Felony and is punishable by 15 years in prison and/or a $30,000 fine. The remaining charges are misdemeanors. Because this is an on-going investigation and criminal charges are pending, no further information is available at this time.
