Senator Tim Johnson gives $200K to SD Democratic Party

Posted: Updated:

South Dakota's retiring U.S. senator has announced that he's giving $200,000 to the state's Democratic party.

Tim Johnson made the announcement at the State Democratic Convention in Yankton Friday night.

Johnson says he'll be transferring the remaining funds from his Political Action Committee to the party.

Johnson has served as a U.S. Senator for South Dakota since taking office in 1997.

The convention began Thursday and runs through Saturday. Friday night featured speeches from party leaders and several candidates. Former Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak was the featured speaker. He is one of five vice chairs of the Democratic National Committee.
