More than 200 new South Dakota laws to take effect

More than 200 state laws ranging from bans to repeals and tweaks of existing policy take effect in South Dakota on Tuesday.
July 1 also marks the start of a new fiscal year across most of the country and in South Dakota. The state has a $4.3 billion spending plan for the next 12 months.
The recitation of the pledge of allegiance in schools must be offered daily.
And other new policies require more transparency from the South Dakota High School Activities Association and law enforcement. Police logs must now be open to the public.
Bans on texting while driving and sex-selective abortions are effective this week.
And a policy to keep guns from mentally ill peopled deemed a threat to themselves or others will be enforceable this week.
