Police remind Sioux Falls residents about firework violations

Posted: Updated:

With the Independence Day holiday upon us, Sioux Falls police are reminding residents that many types of fireworks are illegal to use within city limits.

According to Public Information Officer Sam Clemens, any firework with an audible report or that shoots a projectile is illegal in Sioux Falls.

"Anything that makes noise or has movement is a violation," Clemens says. He added that it is at the officer's discretion whether to write a warning or a ticket.

A fireworks violation ticket is $95.00.

Examples of legal fireworks within the city limits include sparklers, snakes, smoke bombs, and snaps.

Clemens said fireworks are legal in rural areas surrounding the city, but he encouraged people to clean up afterwards.
