Getting a taste of Zesto, a Pierre local favorite

There's something to be said about really, really good ice cream. There's no better time for it than the peak days of summer.

If you're from the Pierre area or you've been through the community, Zesto probably rings a bell. For its regulars who come from near and from far, it's well worth the trip.

It's a small building with a big, delicious reputation. 

Zesto is a staple in this town. Take it from a family visiting all the way from Raleigh, North Carolina. 

"For the last 22 years, we've been stopping back and this is on the top of our list," Craig Herman said. 

So much so, the Herman family chats about their flavor of choice on the airplane before they even get to South Dakota. 

"This is an essential trip. When we got off the plane, before we dropped off our luggage, we stopped here at Zesto's. This is our first stop in town," Pierre Native Jonette Herman said. 

But we ask people: what makes Zesto so good?

"I think it's the texture. Plus, it comes from the Midwest so it's a nice wholesome type of ice cream, smooth, delicious tasting, lots of variety. The variety of sundaes and toppings you can get whatever you want," Craig Herman said. 

"I love this ice cream. Not too sweet, it's just right," Jonette said.

"The service is great, the people are friendly, it's always good," Joyce Williamson said. 

And Zesto employees couldn't agree more. 

"It's a known fact in Pierre. This is where everyone goes," employee Kelsey Hammond said.

"People have their favorite treats and come back every year for the same thing. The peach cobbler, the turtle, people are addicted to it," employee Halli Holden said. 

Best of all, the regulars say it's good bag for your buck. 

"This is like a small, this is more than enough for someone my size. You get plenty for your money here," Herman said.
