Sioux Falls landed in the national spotlight Sunday in a special series on CNN’s Fareed Zakaria’s GPS.
“The true measure of economic recovery boils down to just one thing, jobs…there is a city that's spurring economic development and it has an unemployment rate that is about half the national average. For the next four weeks I'll be taking you to areas around the country where america works,” said Zakaria in the CNN piece.
Sioux Falls is the second city featured in the new five part series called ‘Where America Works.’
Sunday’s segment highlighted Sioux Falls impressive unemployment rate, population growth, the city’s stable economy and its impressive finances.
Governor Dennis Daugaard, Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether and Raven Industries CEO Daniel Rykhus were featured in the segment.
The interviews and video were filmed in December when a CNN producer and photojournalist came to tour Sioux Falls.
CNN says the ‘Where America Works’ series shows that while Washington, D.C. may be broken; problems are being effectively solved in towns all across America.
“It's pretty simple, you infuse compromise, communicate and find common ground and then you get things done I mean how much more simple can that be and that is absolutely what's not occurring in Washington, D.C.,” said Mayor Mike Huether in the CNN piece.
The city of Sioux Falls will be having a press conference about the segment on Monday.
