Augustana's Heritage Park tours every Sunday afternoon

Posted: Updated:

People visiting Sioux Falls this summer have an opportunity to step back in time every Sunday afternoon at Augustana’s Heritage Park.

“This happens to be my day to host the school but this is my school, I bought it from the school board, then I decided to donate it to Augustana,” said James Wehdel.

The schoolhouse and other buildings used to be located outside of Sioux Falls, but were moved to the Heritage Park about 20 years ago to give people an idea of what life was like on South Dakota’s prairie years ago.

“The school is really old, its nice to see a one room school it takes you back to the 1800s, it is exactly as it was then, there's not a lot of damage so its really nice you kind of get the feeling that you're still there,” said first-time visitor Erica Wilson.

The Heritage Park is free and open to the public every Sunday afternoon this summer from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
