UPDATE: One dead after van tears through automotive show in Sioux Falls

Posted: Updated:
One person is dead after a being pinned up against a tree by a van after it hit several pedestrians at a Sioux Falls car show.

Police say it happened around 5:43 Saturday near 1st. St. and N. Cliff Ave. According to witnesses, an automotive show was being held at the Salvation Army's parking lot in that area.

Investigators say a van was driving north on Cliff Ave. when it turned into a parking lot in the 800 block. The van then headed east through the parking lot before turning north onto 1st St. The van then hit three pedestrians along that street.

Police say a 43-year-old Sioux Falls resident died at the scene. Witnesses told KSFY News that a woman appeared to be severely injured after being pinned against a tree by the van.

Two other pedestrians, ages 53 and 13, both received serious injuries, but police say the injuries are not life-threatening.

Police identified the driver of the van as Lois F. TwoBulls, 47, of Sioux Falls. TwoBulls was treated for non-life threatening injuries and then charged for manslaughter in the 2nd degree as well as several other minor driving infractions.

The name of the victim that died has not been released. Police are still investigating the accident.

Maj. Thomas Riggs says the Salvation Army was having a block party for the Whittier neighborhood in part of their 125th anniversary in Sioux Falls. He says this is the first time the Salvation Army has had a neighborhood picnic.

Original story:

Sioux Falls police are at the scene of a serious injury crash near the Salvation Army on Cliff Avenue in Sioux Falls .Witnesses at the scene tell us the driver of a van came swerving through the Salvation Army parking lot where a car show was being held. Witnesses say the van then came out of the parking lot and hit a young boy across the street. The van then went up the curb and hit a woman sitting near a tree, pinning her against it.

Emergency crews are working to get the woman and the van out of the area, but the van was wedged between two trees.

The driver of the van and the young boy were taken to the hospital; witnesses at the scene say they don't believe the woman pinned against the tree survived.
