Family of murdered Sioux Falls teen getting some peace of mind

Posted: Updated:

John Swain's parents are finally getting some peace of mind.

Both men in their son's murder have been convicted of the crime.

Police say 26-year-old Theo Crowe killed and dismembered Swain.

Crowe pled guilty to the crime.

And 20-year-old Joshua Clark was convicted just last week.

Now his parents say they're coping.

Being in Bismarck for a week during the trial was one of the hardest times of their lives.

But they were happy to see justice being served for their son.

It's been about a year since John Swain was murdered.

And now both killers are behind bars.

"If that was the only thing John was killed for was because they needed to be taken off the streets, then I was there to make sure it was done," said his mom Pat.

Even though justice was served, John's parents, Pat and David, say the brutality of the crime is still hard to cope with.

"Because it was senseless. The cops even said it was so horrible, just because of the fact that it was a total disregard of human life. Because there was no reason, none at all," Pat added.

The wounds are still raw.

But they're working every day to keep the best memories of John alive.

"Everybody knew him for his smile. Big cheesy smile, made friends with everybody," said the Swain's.

And trying to remember their son is the reason these murderers can't do any more harm.

"He took out two great big guys. He took them down. They're off the street, they're not going to hurt anybody anymore. They're both in excess of 6 feet 200 pounds, they're done. They'll be incarcerated most likely for the rest of their lives," said John's dad David.

David and Pat added they're trying to keep busy.

They're spending more time with family and fixing things up around their house.
