Woman steals money from Make-A-Wish campaign

Posted: Updated:
It is a story that will likely have you shaking your head in disgust. Police need help identifying a woman who was seen stealing a container full of money intended for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Dakota.

It happened Friday July 11th at a Cubby's Gas Stop store along North Cliff Avenue near Benson Road.

Police and store employees hope surveillance video will help them find the suspected thief. Store manager Lisa Kistler tells KSFY News the woman in surveillance video walked into to the store, took the counter container full of money, and ran off.

Kistler says this is the first time something like this has happened and hopefully the last.

"I think that's about the lowest you can go... to take money from kids who, some, are terminally ill. There was probably enough money in that pig to buy a plane ticket to Disney World," Cubby's store manager Lisa Kistler said. "The lady decided she could use the money more than the Make-A-Wish kids could."

It's a long-standing partnership between Cubby's, J&L Harley-Davidson and the Make-A-Wish chapter of South Dakota. Organizers place plastic pig containers all over town for their "Hogs & Wishes" campaign ahead of Hot Harley Nights.

If you have any information about the suspect, call Sioux Falls Crime Stoppers at 605-367-7007.
