Local radio station helps fill Make-A-Wish pig back up

Posted: Updated:
It's a story we first brought to you Monday on KSFY News at 10:00. A woman is suspected of stealing a money-filled container for charity from a Sioux Falls convenience store. It happened Friday July 11th at the Cubby's along North Cliff Avenue near Benson Road.

While police are still trying to find the woman, with the help of surveillance video, others in town have stepped up to help replace what was lost.

The "Hogs & Wishes" campaign places plastic containers of money in each local Cubby's store for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Dakota. It's a partnership between the Sioux Falls Cubby's stores, Make-A-Wish and J&L Harley-Davidson.

Last Friday, the woman in the surveillance video decided that she needed that money more than the children with life-threatening illnesses.

"I think that's about the lowest you can go, to take money from kids who, some, are terminally ill. there was probably enough money in that pig to buy a plane ticket to Disney World," Cubby's store manager Lisa Kistler said. 34

On Tuesday, it didn't take long for radio station Big Country 92.5 KTWB to step up and help fill the pig back up!

"Chris and Doc, on the morning show, came up with the idea and then they asked me if I would be willing to go out on the sidewalk and broadcast live today and I'm like "sure, it's a beautiful day and let's do something good and get this pig filled up for these children," KTWB personality Cindy Rippe said.

Until police find the thief who is responsible for stealing the container, donations are still needed.

"Sioux Falls is such a giving community and we just want to make sure that this money is replaced and hopefully we'll get even more then what was taken," Rippe said.

And with help from the community, KTWB raised well over what was in that container, more than $965!

While their one-day campaign is over, there's still ways you can help. Visit the following link: https://southdakota.wish.org/ways-to-help/giving/donate
