Co-op Natural Foods still using temporary location after fire

Posted: Updated:

It has been six months since Co-op Natural Foods was hit by arson.

They suffered some tremendous damage and had to move out of their store.

After the fire in January they did have to close their doors for about six weeks, but then they opened up their temporary location.

And are still there waiting for a permanent space.

The fire took out most everything in the store.

But the General Manager Molly Langley said with that heartache came welcome positivity.

Their members have been incredibly loyal, as has the community.

Langley said they feel so supported by everyone, from the police and fire department to their members and the entire community.

Everyone felt for them after what she called horrific circumstances.

Since moving to the new location off Minnesota, they've gained more people because it's actually more convenient for them now.

They're not fully up and running because they don't have proper refrigeration, but even so, they're at about 80% of their normal business.

"Just the initial shock took several months to recover from and the Board of Directors has been working hard to use this as an opportunity to rethink what might happen to us. Instead of thinking this is all just horrible things ,which it certainly feels like, they're trying to re-imagine the future, so they're trying to make an opportunity out of it instead of have it be completely negative," said Langley.

She added isn't sure where their permanent location will be.

But she hopes to have it all sorted out by the end of the summer.
