Sioux Falls Business Journal Report: July 22

Posted: Updated:
This week's Sioux Falls Business Journal Report cover story focuses on the changing financial service workplace.

The level of employment in financial services locally (more than 16,000 people) is nearly back to pre-recession levels. However, some roles and where people are changing.

For example, Citibank at one time employed more than 3,200 people. That’s now down to 2,200. It’s more a reflection of the industry and the global nature of the business than it is of Sioux Falls. Like companies everywhere, financial giants are learning to be leaner and adding technology which often means fewer people or shifting people to new roles.

Also, it’s a big week for Brookings-based Daktronics Inc. The company will unveil the world’s largest LED displays at the Jacksonville Jaguars' stadium on Saturday. The massive end zone displays include 35.5 million LED lights and measure 60 feet high by 362 feet wide. The high brightness is designed to help the displays overcome direct Florida sunlight.

The big display and others like it by Daktronics at NFL stadiums also caught the attention of the New York Times, which profiled the company earlier this week. You can find that story at
