A Sioux Falls gas station clerk was struck in the head with a handgun during an overnight armed robbery.

Sioux Falls Police were called to the Freedom Value Center on West 12th Street after 4:00 a.m. Sunday. The gas station clerk said a male subject had entered the store and walked back to the cooler, selecting several drinks.

The suspect brought them to the register, but then pulled a black semi-automatic handgun from his coat pocket and demanded money from the clerk. When the clerk was unable to open the register, the male suspect struck the clerk in the head with the handgun.

The clerk suffered minor injuries, but fell to the ground after being struck; the suspect then fled the store.

The suspect is described as an African male with a dark complexion and dreadlock style hair. He was approximately six feet tall weighing 180 to 200 pounds. The suspect was wearing a white jacket with red trim, dark colored jean shorts and hi-top tennis shoes during the robbery. Anyone with any information should contact the Sioux Falls Police or Crime Stoppers.
