Aberdeen added to public meetings in autism study

Posted: Updated:
Aberdeen has been added to a list of cities that will host public meetings on rule changes pertaining to students with autism and other disabilities.

Rapid City, Pierre and Sioux Falls had previously been selected to host meeting on the topic.

The state departments of Human Services and Labor and Regulation selected a private firm in June to conduct a study on the treatment of autism spectrum disorders for children in South Dakota.

State lawmakers enacted the study this year in an effort to analyze the availability and effectiveness of autism care services for children, as well as the impact of requiring insurance plans to cover services.

The firm is expected to issue a report by Nov.15, 2014.

Updates on the study will be available online at http://dlr.sd.gov/autism/ .
