Mauer hopeful for Astros series

Posted: Updated:
The Minnesota Twins squeezed out a win Sunday afternoon to avoid getting swept by MLB's best, the Oakland Athletics, but they still remain at the bottom of the totem pole. The Twins are dead last in the AL Central, but fans do have something to be hopeful for, that being the return of Joe Mauer.

Mauer has been playing in Cedar Rapids with the single A Kernels. He was 2-4 Saturday night going 5-9 over his past two games. He did not play in the contest Sunday. The Twins hope to see him return to the club Monday for the Houston Astros series.

Twins' General Manager Ron Gardenhire says Joe has no problems whatsoever. He is just getting used to playing 9 innings every day again.
