Sioux Falls police are looking for a suspect who allegedly assaulted his teenage girlfriend before attempting to throw her into a lake.

Police say a 19-year-old man showed up at his 17-year-old girlfriend's house on the 800 block of W. 16th St. The girl told the suspect to leave, but he refused.

The suspect then assaulted the girl, hitting her to the ground and strangling her. Police say the suspect then dragged the girl to nearby Covell Lake, where he attempted to throw her in the lake.

The girl told police she was able to get away and run back home. Her mother called police.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, about 6'2", weighing about 165 lbs.

The names of those involved in the incident have not been released. Police say the woman received some cuts and bruises, but was not hospitalized.
