UPDATE: TV crew member died due to injuries from police shootout in Omaha

OMAHA (Courtesy WOWT) - Gunfire on the streets of Omaha, Neb. left two people dead, including a robbery suspect and a "COPS" television show crew member dead.

Omaha Deputy Police Chief Dave Baker said an officer saw a man robbing the Wendy's restaurant near 43rd Ave. and Dodge St. around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday and called for backup. The suspect held a clerk at gunpoint and demanded cash before walking outside to find police waiting. During the confrontation, shots were exchanged and the suspect was wounded. He was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

“The suspect in the armed robbery has since been declared deceased at the hospital,” said Deputy Chief Baker. “The other person transported to the hospital at that time was a member of the COPS television program."

He was hospitalized at the Med Center, but Wednesday he died of his injuries.. COPS, a syndicated reality show that depicts law enforcement officers in action, has been in Omaha shadowing police since June. Minutes earlier, the Little Caesars Pizza near North Saddle Creek Road and California Street was held up. Police are looking into whether the same man was involved.
