A Sioux Falls woman had a disturbing discovery in her central Sioux Falls apartment over the weekend. She found a web cam hidden in the bathroom of her apartment at 503 South Spring Avenue.
53-year-old Burton Morehead lived in the same apartment building in Sioux Falls. He was also the maintenance man for the building, and many others in the area, giving access to the buildings apartments, including the victims.
Burton Morehead's neighbor's say they've had problems with him in the past.
"Well he's not a very friendly person. He's very touchy. If you don't get along with him, then he shows anger," said Sandy Andrews, the victim's neighbor who also has her maintenance done by Morehead.
But this time was different. This past Saturday, a 26-year-old female looked up and spotted a web cam in her bathroom ceiling vent.
"This was the vent she took out and that's where the camera was, up in the wall," Andrews showed KSFY.
The victim called police and according to her neighbor, it was gone just as quickly as she had seen it.
"All that she knows is it was there and she called the police. And she said when she looked again, it was gone," said Andrews.
Burton Morehead's apartment was wall-to-wall to with the victims. When police arrived, they found several more holes drilled her living room and bathroom, including cords in Morehead's apartment leading directly to his TV.
But Morehead's girlfriend, who currently lives with him, says those holes were already there.
"When he moved in, they were in the apartment. That's what he told the cops and he doesn't drill unless he's fixing something," said Lea Ann Weiker, Morehead's girlfriend.
And she doesn't believe Morehead would would snoop on his neighbors.
"He's not that type of person. Since I've known him, he's never done anything like that," said Weiker.
Morehead was on parole when he was arrested. He is now being charged with unlawful surveillance, which is only a class one misdemeanor. Morehead is being held on a $5,000 cash bond.
