Perhaps you've seen the promos for the new ABC show Oprah's Big Give? Well KSFY has been chosen to re-create our own version of the show.
ABC and Oprah's Big Give have given KSFY $10,000 to help kick start Oprah's Big Give Dakota.
The idea behind Oprah's Big Give Dakota is similar to her show. A sort of pay-it-forward spirit where local companies will find ways to spend the money within their community. All focusing on helping others in need.
$10,000: divided up between three companies to help make a difference in Sioux Falls.
Just as contestants have done on Oprah's Big Give, Sioux Falls companies will be given the chance to change the lives of complete strangers in dramatic ways.
"This program's going to be phenomenal. You're going to see some great stories over the next few weeks," said KSFY General Manager Kelly Manning.
Target, Citibank, and Avera have each been given $2,500. Now, they'll have figure out how to make the biggest difference.
"With the money that we're going to be given, we want to make an impact on our community and we don't just want to hand over a check. We really want to give people a chance and get vendors involved and get the whole community involved," said Lindsey Patterson, Target Executive Team Lead.
KSFY's General Manager Kelly Manning says the money is only the beginning. As the company's plans take shape, KSFY and the Argus Leader will be covering their efforts.
"We're going to do stories and people are going to get connected to these stories, in hopes that at the end of this, we create some huge impact and really help some folks in our coverage area," stated Manning.
So while Oprah reaches out to the country, we'll be touching people's lives right here in Sioux Falls.
