Dad's Desire To Find Son

Brian Swanson of Marshall, MN continues to look for his 19-year-old son Brandon.

By Drew Sandholm

For more than six weeks, Brian Swanson of Marshall, MN has searched for his 19-year-old son Brandon.

"Desire to find him. Closure. We're... we need closure and until we find him we won't have that," said Brian and he hasn't stopped searching since Brandon went missing last month. Brian says his son got lost while driving near Taunton.

By plane, on foot, and in the waters of the Yellow Medicine River, volunteers have spent weeks looking for the Minnesota teen. So far, they've had no luck.

"An area we can focus on would be great, but you know we don't have that. We have the circumference around his car. You just got to keep making it bigger and bigger until we find him," said Brian. He told KSFY that he thinks his son could be in the Yellow Medicine River.

"That's most likely where he is. If he was out of water, I think something would have indicated where he's at," said Brian and that makes things difficult. With thick weeds and tall grass, the terrain is tough to search.

"You could take one step and you're falling into the water or you step into a hole out here and you sprain your ankle," said newly named search manager Gary Peterson, who's optimistically leading the efforts. "We're going to find this young man and we're going to bring him home and it's just going to take a matter of time."

As for Brian Swanson, he appreciates the volunteers that have been helping look for Brandon. Some volunteers are complete strangers. He said, "They just heard about it and they just have to come and help. I've got people from South Dakota that show up every weekend ready to go and i have never met them before this."

Brian is hoping that the support won't stop until Brandon comes back home.

Anyone interested in looking for Brandon this Sunday should report to the Taunton Fire Hall in Taunton, MN around 8:30 Sunday morning. Outdoors clothing is encouraged.
