The bagged dog-food pile at Second Chance Rescue Center is shrinking away, while canine attendance remains high. “Speaking for All Animals Great & Small” is the mission statement at Second Chance Rescue Center, and we are speaking for the dogs to ask if you can help us feed them!
Food for the dogs who have come to us off the streets, unclaimed strays that we spruce up and get to know, so we can tell their story and connect them with love that will enter them through the doors of loving homes.
Food for the dogs who have been left by their owners who were unable to make the “till death do us part” commitment. Life got to busy for the family dog... social plans, the kids started sports, the graduated teen moved out and on to college... The families have many engagements that enrich their lives. All the family dog [pet] has... is their family.
Food for dogs like the one who had been carried over a fence in the arms of Humane Officer Amber Ryswyk, tethered by a knotted log chain, emaciated, matted fur... forgotten.
Food for the 2 month old black lab brought to us January 23rd... saved by a farm hand who spared the puppy from his demise as the farmer intended to “dispose” of the live puppy in the on-site incinerator.
Second Chance Rescue Center received over 4500 dogs in 2007. While we are always able to feed hope... It takes 200 pounds of food DAILY to feed the animals we care for.
Second Chance is a non-profit animal shelter operating on private donations from animal loving citizens in our community. The nominal funds received for stray pet services do not begin to recoup operating costs of caring for animals everyday. (rent, utilities etc).
Second Chance is grateful for every donation received and are not picky, however - in order to prevent upset stomachs from frequent dietary changes, we are asking for PURINA or IAMS dry adult dog and puppy chow. Second Chance Rescue Center is located at the Wild Water West intersection on 41st St, 4 miles west of Roosevelt High School.
