Sam is the weekend meteorologist at KSFY News and is regularly involved in KSFY Morning News.
Sam grew up in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area. He had internships throughout college at KARE 11 News (the NBC affiliate in the Twin Cities) and also at Aeris Weather in Eden Prairie, MN. Sam attended Iowa State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in meteorology. It was at Iowa State where he gained experience forecasting the weather and also perfecting his broadcast skills at ISU TV’s “Cy’s Eyes on the Skies” weather program that aired two days a week.
Sam became fascinated with weather at a young age. This is when he watched the Weather Channel commonly and tuned into the news to keep tabs on upcoming storm systems. He always loved when strong/severe storms came to town! The biggest event that drove him to pursue a meteorological career was the Hugo, Minnesota tornado event of 2008 that tracked 5 miles north of his house and affected some of his closest friends in junior high school.
Sam grew up in a military family and is the oldest of three children. He takes pride in being a superb traveler and has been to nearly 40 of our 50 states! Along with weather, he shares a passion for sports. Sam is a fan of every Minnesota team and also keeps tabs on professional tennis tournaments. When Sam is not forecasting or at the KSFY studio he is more than likely having a good laugh, going for a run, golfing, playing a match of tennis, or at the local hockey rink. Sam is excited to start his meteorological career in the beautiful city of Sioux Falls and hopes to produce accurate weather forecasts for the public.
