Update: 1 dead, 1 injured in crash north of Humboldt


One person died and another was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon north of Humboldt.

A 2018 Honda Accord was northbound on South Dakota Highway 19 and was the third vehicle behind a South Dakota Department of Transportation snowplow.

The driver of the Honda Accord traveled into the southbound lane in an attempt to pass the two vehicles and the snowplow.

It collided with a southbound 2011 Chevy Silverado K3500 pickup.

45-year-old male driver of the Honda Accord was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was wearing a seatbelt.

The 60-year-old pickup driver received serious non-life threatening injuries.

He was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.

He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The names of the two people involved are not being released pending notification of family members.


The South Dakota Highway Patrol says one person has died in a head-on collision north of Humboldt.

The accident happened Friday afternoon on Highway 19 near 250th Street. The road is blocked off as crews work the scene.

Another person has serious, non-life threatening injuries and was airlifted to a hospital.

The crash is under investigation. This is a developing story.
