BURKE, S.D. – Billie Sutton, a former state senator and 2018 candidate for governor of South Dakota, has announced the launch of a free, non-partisan leadership institute.

The Billie Sutton Leadership Institute aims to inspire and prepare the next generation of leaders to build a stronger South Dakota, and more vibrant communities and workplaces through service to others.

The free, year-long leadership development program for a selective class of young professionals, community leaders, local elected officials, and people interested in public service or getting more involved in their community.

In a press released Sutton said after receiving so much support from the community following his rodeo accident, public service became an important part of his life as a way to give back. He added he's excited to help instill a desire to serve in others and help prepare the next generation of leaders to build a stronger South Dakota.

Joining Sutton on the board of directors is a team of accomplished bi-partisan leaders:

- Judith K. Meierhenry, South Dakota’s first female Supreme Court Justice; Republican

- Robert C. Oliver, former president of Augustana University; Independent

- Kevin Killer, former State Senator

Kelsea Kenzy Sutton, attorney; Gregory County Commissioner
