One of the nation's largest food drives is coming up.
The 2019 National Association of Letter Carriers "Stamp out Hunger" food drive takes place Saturday, May 11.
Last year's drive resulted in carriers collecting 71.6 million pounds of food from across the country and U.S. territories, according to the NALC.
Anyone wishing to make a donation can leave non-perishable food items in a bag near their mailbox on Saturday, May 11. The food will be delivered to local food banks.
Organizers say while all non-perishable donations are welcome, foods that are high in protein such as canned tuna, salmon, beans and peanut butter are most needed. Canned fruits and vegetables, whole grain, low sugar cereals, macaroni and cheese dinners and 100 percent fruit juice also top the list of most needed items.
