SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Today's edition of Made in South Dakota is a little different. Oksana Silchuk is a self-made designer from Ukraine. She has been in the United States since she was 9 years old.

"We moved to the states to South Dakota. We have only lived here in Sioux Falls," she said.

Her husband is also from Ukraine. They met when they were younger. She says they were family friends.

"When we came here, our parents would hang out and we would hang out, so we obviously fell in love that way," she said.

Now, she is making it in South Dakota in a unique way. Silchuk works at a dental office in town, but on the side, she focusses on design.

"We purchased this home and it was almost to the point where it was getting foreclosed on. It was in very rough shape," she said.

Her creative eye transformed her home, and she decided to post some of her ideas online.

"I started posting more photos of my home on Instagram, and I got a lot of awesome comments," she said.

Her page has taken off. She says a lot of the items she showcases are very affordable.

"I get a lot of my inspiration from thrift stores. Actually a lot of the things I own are from the Goodwill," she said.

She also says she loves incorporating things grown, or made, in South Dakota.

"I love incorporating dry things, or even like fresh vines from the outdoors. I love South Dakota, I love the country life feel," she said.

She now gets paid to promote many items on her Instagram account.

"It's super easy to promote something you love," she said.

"I just take photos of them., or incorporate them in my home, and then post about it, write about it, and give my own opinion on it," she said.
