SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) -- A woman is safe and a suspect is in custody after she called 911 from the trunk of her own car to report she had been kidnapped.

Investigators said it began Tuesday morning when the 37-year-old woman returned to her home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and found her ex-boyfriend waiting for her inside her garage. The man allegedly grabbed her and forced her into the trunk of her Oldsmobile Alero, then left Sioux Falls towards southwest Minnesota, before returning to South Dakota.

The woman called 911 from inside the trunk and gave dispatchers a description of the vehicle and the man driving. They used the information she gave them in the ensuing search.

Authorities began searching a large area of eastern Minnehaha County, South Dakota and even into parts of Minnesota. About 40 minutes after the woman called 911, authorities located the vehicle at an abandoned farm.

Law enforcement surrounded the area. Captain Mike Walsh of the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office said the man tried to flee by driving through an alfalfa field. Walsh said authorities disabled the car using a low-speed collision maneuver, and took the suspect into custody.

Sixty-year-old Jon Henri Bryant, Sr. was arrested for first-degree kidnapping, aggravated assault, third-degree burglary, grand theft, second-degree robbery, stalking, simple assault and interference with emergency communication.

The woman received minor injuries from the incident.
